What is UD Non-woven Fabric?
Yankaian UD (Unidirectional) Non-woven Fabric is manufactured from Yankaian series Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber using special adhesives and a proprietary production process. Fiber filaments are aligned in a single direction per layer, then plies are cross-laminated at 0°/90° to create a balanced, dimensionally stable composite panel.
The resulting fabric combines the extreme tensile strength and low density of UHMWPE fiber with the structural integrity of a consolidated sheet — making it the key intermediate material for both soft and hard ballistic protection systems.
Core Material Advantages
- Fiber tensile strength: up to 39+ cN/dtex — 15x stronger than steel by weight
- Density 0.97 g/cm3 — lighter than water, 32% lighter than aramid fiber
- Moisture absorption < 1% — ballistic performance unaffected by rain or humidity
- Excellent UV and chemical resistance for extended service life
- Operating temperature: -150 degrees C to +80 degrees C
- Biocompatible — suitable for extended body contact applications
J100 >= 33 cN/dtex High strength soft + hard | J200 >= 36 cN/dtex Ultra-high strength soft + hard | J280 >= 37 cN/dtex Premium grade soft + hard | J300 >= 39 cN/dtex Top-grade soft + hard | J400 >= 40 cN/dtex Ultra-premium hard armor | JX99 >= 31 cN/dtex High-area-density hard armor |
Higher grade number = higher fiber tensile strength and elastic modulus. Each grade is available in specific GSM configurations optimized for soft or hard armor applications.
